Trail Heads – Club Profile
Annual Dues: $0.00
Active Members: 85
Worldwide Roster: 125
Club Interests: Trail Running, Mountain Biking, Ultra-running, Triathlon, Adventure Sports, Road Riding.
Weather: …is irrelevant. We’re postal. We love mud. Common gene in the group is that of the Swamp Donkey.
Affiliate Clubs: Irish Mountain Runners Association, Pacers, See Jane Run
Favorite Races: Uwharrie Mountain Run, Owl’s Roost Rumble, Pumpkin Run, Gallop and Gorge, Little River Trail Run, Philosopher's Way Trail Runs, Shut-In Ridge Trail Run...and too many others to mention.
Preservation: The club is very watchful of the development of the Carolina North Forest and the Bolin Creek corridor in Chapel Hill and Carrboro. We are keeping an eye on our town council-folk and the proceedings of UNC and its plans for Carolina North.
Listserv: Yes, we have one. It’s useful for last minute workout changes, but has been known to get out of control. Anyone’s welcome to join. Email Squonk.
Membership Requirements: Generally, a Trail Head enjoys the liberating feeling of running in the woods instead of pounding perfect cadences on pavement. Ours are social outings where we encourage one another to stay relaxed and happy. Many of us share training goals and aim at the same races. We learn from each other and tap into the pool of experience shared by the group. To become a Trail Head you must:
1. Run with the club 3 times
2. Tell a joke on the trail
3. Chip in for coffee after one of the outings. This amount is entirely up to your comfort level. The maximum is $10.00, the minimum is $0.10.
Trail Names: Yes, club members are given trail names. These names are based on trail behavior or personality traits. Suggested names are brought before the executive council and voted on. Each individual must personally ratify their trail name, meaning that it must suit you and you must feel happy to have it.
We try to be as informal as possible...
….but, you gotta love being in the trees and on the trail…with a single-track mind.
