| Description:
The TrailHeads are pleased to announce a new spring running event: The Philosopher's Way 7K and 15K Trail Run, scheduled for May 31, 2008. Runners will be able to choose between a 7 or 15 kilometer run on singletrack trails through the Carolina North Forest. This tranquil natural oasis features 750 acres of woodlands nestled between the towns of Chapel Hill and Carrboro. This event is meant for everyone and organized to provide a fun, relaxed, and enjoyable morning on the trails. Enjoy a respite from the urban landscape and come celebrate Spring and the beauty of our local trails in the company of friends and good music. Adopting the slogan "Enter - Learn - Return", the event will promote awareness of the Forest, UNC's active management program and will provide the participants and community a chance to learn and connect with the natural environment. Both the 7K and 15k course are comprised of gently rolling single-track trails. There will be mile markers, course officials, and well stocked aid stations along the way. The 15k race will start at 9:00 a.m. and the 7K will start around 9:15 a.m. (we're working on timing this right) with door prizes and awards to follow. High quality gifts commemorating this inaugural event will be included in race bags for the first 300 registrants. Please Note: No Pets, No Headphones, No Race Day Registration, and No Refunds. All Proceeds go to the Carolina North Forest Management's efforts to maintain the Forest's well-being by employing sustainable management practices that will ensure the Forest is here for the community's enjoyment for many years to come. The race is also a tribute to UNC Philosophy Professor who once owned the land. Every man who studies hard should own a saddle horse. He learns almost daily. Mount him and go to the woods. On my farm was a group of several hundred pine trees. They were tall and straight. I called them my temple. My horse seemed to know when I needed to visit my temple. He would give me his best single-foot and go straight for the temple. Then we stood and listened to the soft music of the swaying boughs. Then he seemed to say it is time to go home. Often the problem would crumble as we sped home.
